Video Tarot Readings
59Marketing Yourself
When you make the desicion to try to make a living from your tarot readings it's important to use every resource at your disposal. Today's technology and the availability of such websites as Youtube and tarotforum.net allows the average joe to gather a following with minimal cost.
If you decide to use Youtube or another video sharing site to present yourself to potential clients there are three major points to consider.
The following videos are of tarot readings I have done for people in chatrooms and on E-bay. As many of them involve their screennames and no personal information I am free to use their videos.
Your Set
Here I'm in my old apartment. My paintings and bookshelves are in the background and I feel they give me a kind of at-home look. I was comfortable here and it's important that you feel comfortable in the area where you conduct your readings to give customers a sense that you know what you're doing.
Appearance and Attitude
Whether it's a cape or cloak, dress shirt and tie, or whatever your appearance should be first and foremost professional. You need to look like someone that people will want to do business with.
It also helps to remember that there are people out there who have gifts of their own. And unlike most markets this is one where you will want to reach out to as many of those people as possible.
Mission Statement
Sometimes after a reading customers will ask me how long I've been doing this. This is a great chance to tell people what it is you are after personally and what goals you wish to accomplish. It may even be a way to attract potential investors.
I still haven't found those investors but I'm not going to say no to them either.

Cool - you read by your statement, that I like.
I've worked in a shop where the area was quite 'presentational', but I did enjoy the atmosphere, as it was consistent with the ethos of the place. I just don't like anything phoney.
Oh yes - grounding beforehand (not necessarily in a 'new age' / energies way) can be very helpful: a rooting exercise from acting that makes one aware of one's body / state and focuses the mind. Really helps breathing (nerves) and concentration, and connects with the client, who is then calmer and more focused too.
Also, exploring a card by visualising entering the scene and communicating with any characters there - very actor-like exercise!
Archetypes, etc., the characters of the cards are very connected to play characters, too.
And - amazing perk - the disclaimer for tarot readers concerned about legalities now is that the reading is 'for entertainment purposes only'. As part of my union membership I have public liability as a performer / entertainer: I'm actually covered (well) for readings!
LOL! Sounds like a story there . . .

Love the Robin Wood deck - with you on that one - and hate the idea of the Starter deck! ;) Of course, for people who develop and wean themselves off those notes (realising how much more there is to each card), as you have done, I guess it isn't as bad as I fear.
Very interesting to see your videos - thank you - and great to see you give advice to those asking.
Do you have a mini version of your Mission Statement? Something concise, listing main points, which can lead to the full version for those interested? It's a bit long for first gaining attention, I feel.
Also, editing your video so you come across even more professionally and do not need to correct / amend what you have just said (or be drowned out by external noises), could really help the presentation of your package(s). I use Windows Movie Maker (came free for me so I'm assuming it is cheap / easily available), and it is excellent for basic editing (I am an actor - I have yet to film any tarot readings).
All the very best with this!
